Three arrested with 12.5 quintals of marijuana

Police arrested three individuals with approximately 1,143 kilograms and 275 grams (12.5 quintals) of illegal marijuana.

KATHMANDU, May 31: Police arrested three individuals with approximately 1,143 kilograms and 275 grams (12.5 quintals) of illegal marijuana.



They arrested two people from Ranitaar in Chaudandigadhi Municipality-1, Udayapur, and one from Jhanjhana in Hariharpur Gadhi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhuli. The latter was carrying around 107 kilograms and 110 grams of marijuana.

The arrested individuals are Ratna Maya Shrestha and 42-year-old Kamala Shrestha of Ranitaar, Udayapur, and 19-year-old Gopal Sah of Garuda Municipality-4, Rautahat.


After receiving a tip-off about marijuana hidden in Maya's house, a team from the Udayapur District Police Office searched the residence and found the drugs packed in 35 sacks. They then arrested both women.


Likewise, a police team from the Jhanjhane outpost intercepted a Bolero pickup truck (Province 2-03-001 Cha 5671) traveling to Sindhuli from Kulekhani. They found marijuana concealed under sacks of cement and arrested the driver, Sah.


Police apprehended the Shrestha duo on Thursday afternoon and Sah on Friday. They said further investigation is ongoing.
