KATHMANDU, April 6: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has returned home after wrapping up his five-day official visit to Thailand, the first ever trip by the head of government of Nepal ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 65 years ago.
During this trip to Thailand, PM Oli also attended the sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and held various meetings and interactions. On Friday, he had a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A member of PM Oli’s secretariat confirmed that the delegation led by PM Oli landed in Nepal on Saturday afternoon after completing their state-visit to Thailand.
Upon his return to Kathmandu, Prime Minister Oli told reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport that his official visit to Thailand was very successful and meaningful.

Oli claimed that his official visit to Thailand helped take the bilateral relations to a new height.
“Fruitful discussion was held with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on forwarding regional and multi-sectoral cooperation and collaboration in addition to bilateral trade, investment, and developments of agriculture, tourism, culture, education and human resource development, according to him,” Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai read the press statement on behalf of PM Oli.
According to the statement, the two countries, where the Buddhist religion and philosophy are common, agreed to strengthen diplomatic relations by expanding economic and cultural activities.
PM Oli in the statement mentioned that Nepal secured commitment from the Thai government for Nepal's national ambition of 'Prosperous Nepal-Happy Nepali.'
“Thailand is ready to extend support in the sector of agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and IT to support the campaign.”
The two countries signed two different agreements on exchange of support in cultural and tourism fronts while the private sectors of Nepal and Thailand inked six agreements during PM Oli’s visit.
PM Oli also invited the Thai Prime Minister Shinawatra to visit Nepal, and said he is expecting her visit soon.
During his address to the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, PM Oli shed light on various pressing issues of regional and global concerns like economic inequality, rising economic risk and political uncertainty. He mentioned that climate change has posed an existential threat to entire humanity. PM Oli underlined the need for regional cooperation for resolving those problems.
PM Oli added that he also invited the head of states of BIMSTEC member countries to attend the Sagarmatha Sambaad to be organized by Nepal in order to hold discussion on environment and other regional and international challenges.
Leading a Nepali delegation, PM Oli had left for Thailand on April 1 for the official visit at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
