KATHMANDU, July 18: The Nepal Teachers' Federation (NTF) has given the government an ultimatum to pass the School Education Bill by August 6. Holding a press conference on Friday, NTF warned that if the bill is not passed by the deadline, it will launch a more intense protest than in the past. It stated that the nature and schedule of the protest will be made public later.
Accusing the government of not being serious about implementing the agreement reached on April 29, the NTF issued the ultimatum. During the press conference, teacher representatives claimed that the government itself backed out of its commitment to pass the School Education Bill through the House of Representatives by June 29, and is now blaming teachers despite the deadline having passed two weeks ago.

They said they would have no option but to resume protests if the bill is not passed by August 6. Claiming that the government is not sincere about implementing the agreement, they argued that delaying the bill in the Education Committee while framing teachers as obstacles is wrong.
According to the agreement, the government had committed to making temporary teachers permanent, addressing the promotion process of permanent teachers, managing departmental action, handling school staff issues, resolving the status of ECD (Early Childhood Development) teachers, and ensuring trade union rights. The NTF accused the government of conspiring against these issues.
Stating that the government has failed to show seriousness even in implementing the written agreement, the NTF emphasized that it has no alternative but to protest.
