KATHMANDU, June 9: Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL) successfully concluded its week-long World Environment Day celebrations with a tree plantation drive on June 7 at Laboratory Secondary School, Kirtipur.
More than 350 staff members participated in planting over 700 saplings, representing more than 20 varieties of fruit-bearing, flowering, and shade-providing trees. The initiative aims to enhance greenery, support biodiversity, and strengthen long-term environmental resilience. Staff members also cleaned and tended to plantation sites from previous years.

The ceremonial planting began with the first sapling being jointly planted by Gorakh Rana, CEO & Head of Coverage; Sarbendra Mishra, Deputy CEO & Head of Treasury Markets; and the school’s Vice Principal, Pemba Tshering Sherpa.
Expressing gratitude to staff for their enthusiastic participation, Mr Rana said the activity reflected the Bank’s purpose of being “Here for good.” He noted, “Our team’s active involvement demonstrates how sustainability is deeply embedded in our values and actions.”
In the lead-up to the event, the Bank organised a series of awareness and engagement programmes focused on sustainability, environmental protection, and climate resilience. These efforts were aligned with the global theme for World Environment Day 2025 — “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
An interactive session and cultural programme on environmental preservation were also held at the school. The tree plantation drive symbolises the Bank’s continued commitment to investing in future generations and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship from an early age.
