Social Security Fund now mandatory for all employers

Although the Social Security Fund was introduced in 2019, registration for industries and institutions had not been compulsory until now. Under the new provision, all employees—regardless of the nature of employment or service terms—must now be enrolled in the contribution-based Social Security Fund.

KATHMANDU, May 2: The government has made it mandatory for all businesses and organizations to register under the Social Security Fund (SSF) as outlined in the policy and program for the fiscal year 2025/26.



Although the Social Security Fund was introduced in 2019, registration for industries and institutions had not been compulsory until now. Under the new provision, all employees—regardless of the nature of employment or service terms—must now be enrolled in the contribution-based Social Security Fund.

The policy also states that companies, institutions, cooperatives, and firms will be required to submit proof of regular SSF contributions when renewing their business licenses.
