KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Small businesses and liquor shops in the Thamel area will have to close their outlets after 10 PM in the evening with the authority imposing prohibition order citing security threat in the aftermath of the Gen Z protest.
According to the Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC), it has taken this decision to minimize security challenges, citing the increasing incidence of theft, robbery and brawls at night. “The deadline has been set due to increasing congestion and unwanted activities on the roads.”

The TTDC has urged all businessmen to cooperate in making Thamel safe and orderly with the onset of the main tourist season. Earlier, in April 2024, the authority had permitted Thamel-based businesses to remain operational for 24 hours.
