Creativity can be any creative response to a situation. It can be an awareness of the world too. The main point is to communicate creativity. Through literature or any other forms of art we are able to respond to a situation creatively. But it can also mean speaking what you really feel, making the most out of your job, making your life more fruitful.
Even research articles are creative enough. It takes hard work, patience and curiosity to write a research article or a book. The preliminary research that we conduct can help us remain creative. Investing time in art, learning to play musical instruments and taking an evening stroll in the city or sub-urban heights can also fuel creative passion. The main mantras of being creative are curiosity and expression.
If we only keep the creative tasks to ourselves, it can also benefit us. But no one likes to be inside the closet for long. We need criticism in our creative tasks. People should really give us their views, and that will help us to improve ourselves. Gone are the days where you write in your diary and hide it from the world. Anne Frank was meant to be discovered. The world seeks life changing stories, motivational speakers and better researchers. The fact that writing a diary is script therapy is true for individual writers. But the world seeks a new voice and it is better if it is discovered on time. It connects and inspires people.
Five ways to boost creativity
I would say that shutting yourself to ideas and facts is not the best way to be creative. For me, creativity is a response to a situation. The situation can be the reality. Too much of individualism is always against creativity. That individualism can be molded into a poem and when it takes up a real shape or is disseminated to the world, it will contribute something. The question is, what if I don’t write a poem? Can I still be creative? The answer is yes. One can still be creative if one is living the life that one wants and is a successful person at that. The main thing is, the world wants your creativity to be heard, seen and reflected upon.
I have a musician friend from India. He has been living in Goa for the past few years. He is in a band as a vocalist and guitarist. He has traveled to places like Ladakh. He performs among western and Indian crowds in Goa. He went trekking in the mountains in Nepal a few years ago. He has been traveling for a few years now. He lives life as a traveling musician and is not accustomed to a 10-5 job schedule. He makes some money for travel while he does it. He discovers hidden places in Goa.
There are different people who live life as a traveler if they can sustain and manage their living. My friend has his original songs composed by him and he made music for it. It is available on Spotify and his YouTube channel. He has earned his Master’s in History from Jawaharlal Nehru University, the same University that I went to and where I met him. His YouTube channel goes by the name Frecko Solo. He sketches nature, enjoys diving into the rivers, and lives his passion for traveling. How exciting must it be to live like a traveler? I consider him to be creative, in what he discovers and the resonating lyrics that he writes. He sings in English and Hindi.
Even those people who go to office 10-5 can be creative. Creativity can blossom in any circumstances. Creativity is like a spring that showers beauty all around. Even watching a movie can be a creative experience. Learning a new language, reading about the world, adopting technology—every experience can be creative. We just tend to develop a vague concept about it, and consider that we don’t have any passion or artful way to look at life.
Watching a movie can be creative, but as I said we can talk about it with someone and share the experience—that forms the creative community. Political discourses can also become part of creative engagement if we could get a fruitful solution or make criticism our weapon to justice and truth. Even analyzing the news can be part of creativity. It teaches you something and that is what creativity does as well.
