Govt steps up market monitoring, takes action against 8 firms

The department found violations of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, and the Consumer Protection Rules, 2076, and issued necessary instructions and actions. As part of the actions, the department has suspended the sales of one firm and directed seven others to appear with their documents.

KATHMANDU, April 2: The Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection has intensified its market monitoring activities. During its inspection, the department directed seven firms to present their documents to the department.



The department found violations of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, and the Consumer Protection Rules, 2076, and issued necessary instructions and actions. As part of the actions, the department has suspended the sales of one firm and directed seven others to appear with their documents.

Among the firms affected, Spark Auto Care Pvt Ltd (Kathmandu Metropolis-8) had its sales suspended, and the firm was instructed to submit relevant documents. Similarly, firms such as Gaurang Sarij Pvt Ltd (Kathmandu-31), CG Motors Pvt Ltd (Lalitpur Metropolis-2), Asian Biscuit and Confectionery Pvt Ltd (Biratnagar Metropolis-9), Season IT (Kathmandu-22), Urban Gears (Kathmandu-31), and Gavino Fashion Wear (Kathmandu-31) have been directed to submit their documents to the department.


The department has emphasized that it will continue market monitoring and take necessary actions to maintain a clean and competitive market, while protecting consumer rights. Department Director-General Kumar Dahal said that businesses must fully comply with legal provisions to ensure consumer rights, adding that the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) is mandatory on all products with immediate effect.


He further said, “All products, except those sold by weight or measurement, must display the MRP. This will create a clean and transparent market, and MRP will be mandatory for all items, from small goods to large vehicles.”
