KATHMANDU, June 27: The results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2025 published Friday evening by the National Education Board (NEB) showed a significant improvement from the previous year as the percentage of students who were graded, and therefore qualified to enroll in grade 11, increased by around 14 percentage points. The percentage of examinees who secured upper brackets of grades (A+, A, B+ and B) has also shown improvement compared to the previous edition of the examination.

While a majority of the SEE examinees were ungraded in 2024, a majority have been graded in 2025. A total of 61.81 percent of students who appeared in this year’s SEE have been officially graded, according to the NEB. In SEE 2024, a total of 47.86 percent of the examinees were graded.

Even though the number of students who took the SEE decreased year-on, the number of students who could not pass the examination has also decreased this year. Speaking at a press conference on Friday evening, NEB Chairman Dr Mahashram Sharma, announced that out of 438,896 students who took the examination under normal circumstances, 167,597 were ungraded. In 2024, out of 464,785 examinees who took the examination under normal circumstances, a total of 242,313 failed or got none-grade (NG). Students who get NG are not qualified to enroll in grade 11 unless they pass the enhancement examination.

In SEE 2025, around 11 percent (48,177 students) of the total examinees achieved a GPA between 3.6 and 4.0 (A+ grade), up from  6.75 percent (31,395 students) in 2024. More than 18.54 percent (81,385 students) of the examinees secured a GPA between 3.2 and 3.6 (A grade), up from 14.68 percent (68,256 students) in 2024. Likewise, 89,124 students (20.30 percent) obtained a GPA between 2.8 and 3.2 (B+ grade) in 2025, up from 78,874 students (16.97 percent) in 2024, and 48,479 students (11.04 percent) earned a GPA between 2.4 and 2.8 (B grade) up from 41,477 students (8.92 percent) in 2024. Similarly, 4,126 students received a GPA between 2.0 and 2.4 (C+ grade) in 2025, while only 8 students secured a GPA between 1.6 and 2.0 (C grade). In 2024, six students got 1.60 to 2 GPA and 2,950 students got GPA 2 to 2.40.

Mathematics recorded the highest number of non-graded students in Secondary Education Examination (SEE) this year. A total of 128,215 students failed to secure a grade in mathematics alone.

Chairperson Sharma said that while the overall results have improved, the high number of non-graded students in mathematics remains a matter of concern.

He further shared that 80,672 students received no grade in English, 54,735 in Nepali, 53,186 in Social Studies, and 79,271 in Science and Technology.

Bagmati Province tops the list

Bagmati Province recorded the highest number of graded students at 119,517 followed by Sudurpashchim Province with 59,804 students, Madhesh Province (59,749), and Lumbini Province (57,687). Similarly, Gandaki Province saw 47,849 students graded, while Koshi Province and Karnali Province had 47,835 and 46,455 students graded respectively.

Dr Sharma stated that the grading process was conducted in line with NEB’s standardized national evaluation framework to ensure transparency and consistency.

The NEB will soon release a detailed report outlining the complete grade distribution, the number of ungraded students, subject-wise performance and comparative statistics with previous years. The SEE, which serves as Nepal’s nationwide Grade 10 final examination, plays a critical role in determining students’ eligibility for higher secondary education and future academic pathways.

How you can check the results

Students can now access their results through several platforms provided by the NEB.

According to NEB, SEE results are available via SMS, IVR (Interactive Voice Response) and official websites. While students can immediately view their GPA on most platforms, the full grade sheets may take some time to be uploaded online.

The NEB has urged students and guardians to exercise patience and rely solely on official and verified sources when checking the results.
