Kathmandu, May 3: In a continued effort to promote grassroots cricket, the Kathmandu District Cricket Association (KDCA) is set to organize the second edition of the Jayakumar Nath Shah Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament from May 5 to 11.
Launched in 2024 in honor of Jayakumar Nath Shah, the former president of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and widely revered as the “Father of Nepali cricket,” the tournament commemorates his significant contributions to the development of the sports, especially cricket, in Nepal.
This year’s matches will take place across three venues in Kathmandu: Lower Mulpani, Upper Mulpani, and the Tribhuvan University grounds.
The tournament serves a dual purpose, functioning not only as a competition among schools but also as a selection platform for the upcoming ACC Men's U-16 East Zone Cup 2025. Outstanding players from the tournament will be chosen to represent the Kathmandu District U-16 team, with a potential pathway to the Nepal National U-16 squad.
The organizer, Kathmandu District Cricket Association, has emphasized the importance of conducting proper age verification and ensuring fairness and transparency in the selection process.
Last year, the tournament featured 16 schools, with Sainik Residential College crowned as champions and Mokshada School as runners-up. This year, the event has expanded to 21 participating schools, grouped into seven pools. The group winners and the best-performing second-placed team will proceed to the quarterfinals. A total of 28 matches will be played, with the semi-finals and final broadcast live on Kathmandu Television.
