KATHMANDU, April 7: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is preparing to approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the arrest of its chairman, Rabi Lamichhane.
According to RSP Deputy Spokesperson Pratibha Rawal, the party believes police failed to follow due legal process and violated fundamental human rights during Lamichhane’s arrest from his residence in Hattigauda, Kathmandu, on Friday.

“While it is understandable to arrest someone based on a court order, the proper judicial procedures were not followed in this case,” Rawal said. “The party president had publicly stated his willingness to cooperate. Despite this, police forcefully entered his bedroom and detained him using offensive and inappropriate language. Their actions were unlawful, and we are approaching the Human Rights Commission on these grounds.”
The Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court had issued an order on Friday to remand Lamichhane in custody. Following the order, a police team arrived at his residence at 8 PM. The arrest sparked controversy after the DSP reportedly asked Lamichhane about his “last wish” during the operation.
Lamichhane was taken to Rupandehi following his arrest and is scheduled to be presented before the District Court on Monday. Meanwhile, the RSP is also preparing to approach the Supreme Court to seek a review of the High Court’s order.
