In a statement posted on X, Shrestha said the move was being enforced without proper preparation and disregards public concerns. “Imposing embossed number plates without any groundwork is another injustice to the people,” he wrote, “The government, which has failed to distribute driving licenses, is now forcing this decision without adequate infrastructure, technical readiness, or sensitivity toward the Nepali language and script. This is against public sentiment.”
The government has announced that starting from October, all vehicles across the country will be required to install embossed number plates. From September 17, transport offices will only provide vehicle registration, ownership transfer, and renewal services if the vehicles are fitted with these plates.
