POKHARA, June 9: The Gandaki Province government has decided to postpone the enforcement of its newly introduced ride-sharing regulations by one month, following a request from the federal government. This move aims to facilitate dialogue with transport entrepreneurs who had launched nationwide protests against the rules.

During a parliamentary debate on the provincial government’s annual policy and program, lawmakers across party lines expressed unified support for legalizing and regulating ride-sharing services. Despite differing views on other matters, all major parties—including the opposition—endorsed the move to systematize ride-sharing, emphasizing its role in promoting youth employment and digital innovation.

Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey assured the assembly that the government remains committed to implementing the guidelines after the one-month delay. Lawmakers also raised concerns about federal interference in provincial jurisdiction, especially in areas listed under exclusive provincial authority such as local transportation regulation.

The decision to delay implementation was made after the Prime Minister’s Office sent a formal request, seeking time for coordination. The Gandaki government responded by suspending the guidelines on June 3 and inviting transport operators for dialogue.
