KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that responsible individuals are failing in reforms in the education sector.
Addressing an event organized in Kathmandu, Dr. Koirala said that although Nepal’s future is directly linked to education, those at the policy-making level and other responsible individuals have yet to do real work.

Dr. Koirala stressed that schools should not only be educational institutions but also centers of community pride. “We Nepalis have immense potential, but we have not been able to bring it to light. If teachers cannot be made strong and capable, the nation cannot be made strong. Until teachers are given good salaries, proper facilities, and respect, quality education cannot be delivered,” he said.
Since the creation of an educated society is the first foundation of national prosperity, today’s challenge is to place education policy as a priority, Dr. Koirala said.
“Not only the government, but society and the community must also take education reform as their own responsibility. The education sector must not be allowed to become a game of politics or personal interests,” he said.
