KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Nepal recorded the highest-ever foreign investment commitment in the first month of the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2025/26, Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August), according to the Department of Industry (DoI).
In Shrawan, foreign investment commitments reached Rs 24.105 billion. This is the highest commitment recorded in a single month so far. A total of 127 foreign investment projects were registered in Shrawan, expected to provide employment for over 8,200 people.

Over Rs 20 billion committed in three agriculture projects
The high foreign investment in Shrawan was primarily driven by three projects in the agriculture sector. Based on the DoI’s data, these three agriculture-focused projects alone attracted Rs 20.0455 billion in Shrawan. While previous months saw the highest investment commitments in the service and tourism sectors, this time the agriculture sector received the largest share of foreign investment commitments.
During the same period, the tourism sector received foreign investment commitments worth Rs 30.2 million, according to the DoI. A total of 41 tourism projects were registered in Nepal during this period. The DoI’s data also shows that the information technology sector recorded the highest number of project registrations. In the past month alone, 71 IT projects were registered in Nepal, with foreign investors committing Rs 365.20 million in investment.
Meanwhile, the service sector saw eight projects with a total foreign investment commitment of Rs 3.35billion, the energy sector received Rs 184.20 million, and the production sector Rs 155 million, the DoI said. No foreign investment commitments were recorded in the mining and infrastructure sectors during Shrawan.
