“The Maoists wants to complete the ongoing peace process. The government through the special committee had directed the NA to offer suggestions on integration (of Maoist combatants into the NA),” Dahal said at the inauguration of Center for National Human Rights Concern in Kathmandu on Saturday. [break]“But soon after the NA offered suggestions, rumors that the national army has been integrated into the UCPN (Maoist) are doing the rounds.”
Claiming that the Maoist-headed government sought feedbacks from the national army to expedite integration of the Maoist combatants, Dahal said, “We are for making a constitution that will institutionalize peace and progressive changes in the country.”
He claimed that a section of the people who are against the idea of progressive changes has become impatient after NA turned flexible toward the peace process.
Dahal claimed that the task of army integration, the thorniest of issues relating to the peace process, will complete in “a matter of days".
However, he added that the peace process would still remain incomplete until the Commission on Truth and Reconciliation and the Commission on Disappearances is formed.
Dahal said the task of constitution writing was in fact a part of the peace process.
Stating that a great tussle between the two forces-- those who want to institutionalize the historic changes through the constitution and those who are against it -- is on, he urged the people to keep on pressing the political leadership for a progressive constitution.
