Putin says: No issues in Nepal-Russia relations

Prime Minister Oli thanked President Putin for making time despite his busy schedule and stressed the need to further expand bilateral ties.

CHINA, Sept 2: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on Monday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit in Tianjin, China.



The two leaders briefly interacted in the presence of the media at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel before holding a one-on-one discussion for about half an hour. At the end of the talks, President Putin also met with members of the Nepali delegation.

Recalling that bilateral relations between Nepal and Russia were first established during the Soviet era, from June 5 to July 9, 1956, President Putin stated that there are no problems in the ties between the two countries.


Prime Minister Oli thanked President Putin for making time despite his busy schedule and stressed the need to further expand bilateral ties. Highlighting that many Nepali students who studied in Russia have been contributing to sectors including medicine, Oli praised the quality of Russian education.


The two leaders also discussed enhancing cooperation in areas such as high-level exchanges, education, culture, tourism, information technology, and investment. Earlier, Prime Minister Oli also held meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other heads of state and government.
