KATHMANDU, May 8: Pro-monarchy groups have announced an indefinite protest starting from May 29. They made the announcement during a People’s Movement Declaration Assembly held in Kathmandu on Thursday.

“We announce an indefinite people's movement starting from May 29 to create strong public pressure for achieving our stated goals by exercising the rights granted by the constitution,” said Navaraj Subedi, coordinator of the Joint People's Movement Committee (JPMC), during the assembly.

The pro-monarchy group has issued a three-point demand, which includes the establishment of a constitutional monarchy within a democratic system that accommodates all ideologies and political forces; the reinstatement of Nepal as a Sanatan Hindu nation that ensures religious harmony, equality among all religions, and full religious freedom; and the creation of a strong central government alongside more empowered local governments, with greater authority than currently, in line with the principle of power devolution under a two-tier governance structure.

“Our declaration, if the political parties are willing, can achieve the above objectives through consensus and understanding within the framework of the current constitution,” he said. He also stated that the movement would be peaceful and would take the form of civil disobedience and satyagraha.
