Prisha Shah’s final rites performed in India

The last rites of Prisha Shah, a Nepali student found dead in her hostel room at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, was conducted in India.  Her parents are returning to Nepal on Monday after the funeral.

KATHMANDU, May 5: The last rites of Prisha Shah, a Nepali student found dead in her hostel room at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, was conducted in India.  Her parents are returning to Nepal on Monday after the funeral.



Shah was found hanging in room number 111 of the KIIT hostel on May 1. According to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, her body was cremated in India on Saturday evening.

The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi stated that local police are investigating the death of Prisha, a resident of Birgunj Metropolitan City–15. Although preliminary investigations suggest it was a case of suicide, a detailed investigation is currently underway.


This marks the second reported death of a Nepali student at KIIT in recent months. On February 16, Prakriti Lamsal from Rupandehi was also found dead in her hostel room at the university.
