KATHMANDU, Aug 26: President Ram Chandra Paudel has written to his Jordanian counterpart, King Abdullah II, urging him to take all possible measures to secure the safe release and repatriation of Nepali national Bipin Joshi, who has been held by Hamas since October 7, 2023. Joshi had travelled to Israel to participate in the “Learn and Earn” program in the agricultural sector when he was taken captive by Hamas militants.
In his letter, Paudel highlighted the urgent need to ascertain Joshi’s condition and ensure his safe return, noting that all humanitarian and diplomatic actions taken for this purpose would be highly appreciated by the people and the Government of Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the letter also underscored the longstanding friendly relations between Nepal and Jordan and reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Paudel praised King Abdullah’s leadership in promoting humanitarian values, conflict management and intercultural harmony, while pointing out the potential for expanded cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, labor migration, cultural exchange, and people-to-people relations.
Earlier, Joshi’s mother, Padma Kumari and sister Pushpa had visited Israel at the invitation of the Israeli government. During the trip, they met top officials to request efforts for his prompt release. They also met with President Paudel, Prime Minister K P Oli and Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba upon returning home.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, Joshi’s current situation remains unknown. The Government of Nepal continues to engage with international and regional partners to secure his safe release and repatriation.
