In a statement issued on Thursday, Press Chautari expressed grave concern over what it described as a violation of the constitutional right to take photographs or videos in public spaces by a senior legal practitioner.

Chautari General Secretary Hira Man Lama stated that Thapa’s actions amount to direct interference with press freedom and freedom of expression. The organisation has demanded legal action against Thapa.

The statement further called on civil society and professional organisations to speak out against this act of violence against a working journalist, and urged the creation of an environment where journalists can carry out their duties freely and safely.
