KATHMANDU, Sept 14: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that after arduous efforts in a tense and fearful situation, a peaceful resolution has been achieved. He also appealed to all parties to cooperate to ensure the successful conduct of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.
Issuing a statement on Saturday, the President noted that the Constitution has been safeguarded and that the people now have the opportunity to advance toward a more mature democracy by holding elections to the House of Representatives within six months.
“In an extremely uneasy and tense situation, a peaceful resolution has been reached after difficult efforts,” the statement read. “The Constitution has been preserved, the parliamentary system has survived, and the federal democratic republic remains intact. The people now have the chance to move toward a more advanced democracy by completing the elections to the House of Representatives within six months.”

Paudel appealed for cooperation in conducting the upcoming polls. “I sincerely call on all sides to win the confidence of the people, exercise restraint, and extend full support in holding the elections scheduled for March 5, making the most of this hard-earned opportunity,” he said.
The appeal comes amid strong criticism from eight political parties represented in the now-dissolved House of Representatives, who have called on President Paudel to revoke the dissolution of Parliament and ensure that the demands of Gen Z are addressed through an elected government.
Major parties, including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party, issued a joint statement calling the dissolution unconstitutional and an attack on the Constitution. “The act not only devalues the voting rights of the Nepali people but also undermines constitutional supremacy,” the statement read.
On Friday, following the recommendation of newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki, President Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives, fulfilling one of the key demands of the Gen Z movement. The eight parties demanded the reinstatement of the House, stating: “We strongly demand that the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives be immediately withdrawn and that a session of Parliament be convened so that the demands of the people and the protesting groups can be addressed through a democratically elected institution.”
