KAPILVASTU, Aug 28: A powerful bomb exploded around 6 PM on Thursday near Pachehara Hat Bazaar in Kapilvastu Municipality-10, along the Kapilvastu-Taulihawa section of Road No. 4, destroying a significant portion of the main road.

Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion around 6:10 PM, with bomb fragments scattered across the area. Police, however, stated that the explosive material, buried within the road, detonated on its own.

The blast created a crater approximately 10 feet deep and 4 feet wide. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh confirmed that the explosion was caused by the buried explosive material.

Authorities reported no human casualties. Police and security personnel promptly reached the site and Ward Chairman Mohan Lal Sharma said that while the explosion was substantial, no one was injured.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police. Locals suspect that the bomb could have been planted on the road during the Maoist insurgency era.
