PM Oli: Served 14 years in prison without committing any crime

PM Oli stressed that all human beings are great and everyone deserves to live a dignified life.

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he served 14 years in prison without committing any crime or offense. He remarked that under the then Panchayat system, his only fault was to say that monarchy was not suitable for the country.



Addressing a program organized by the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs on Sunday to mark National Civil Code Day, 2025, PM Oli recalled his struggles during his early political career.

“I spent 14 years in prison without committing any offense,” he said. “My only crime was to express opinions against the monarchy."


He stated that he dismissed the notion of birth-based superiority, calling monarchy a form of hypocrisy. “The principle of inherent superiority by birth has no foundation, no scientific basis, and no facts,” he added.


He said that he learned that all human beings are equal after reading the UN charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He further mentioned that since 2023 BS, he has been active in opposing social discriminations such as untouchability.


PM Oli stressed that all human beings are great and everyone deserves to live a dignified life.
