While PM Oli was making his remarks, the task force of the National Sports Council had issued a formal notice to halt preparations for the NPL. Formed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to investigate the organization of the first edition of the league, the task force had directed the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to suspend all preparations until the investigation is complete.
Earlier the same day, PM Oli reiterated his support while inaugurating a National High Performance Center and Sports Science Lab at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato. “Make grand preparations for the NPL. It is our national pride. It must be promoted on a national scale,” he said. “Just as cricket's popularity has grown across the country, the NPL must also move forward. It should be organized—it must be played.”
PM Oli, in an apparent remark aimed at Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary, said that one should not join the government just to do politics.
