KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The House of Representatives' Committee on Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare has directed the government to operate the Udayapur Cement Industry under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The parliamentary committee issued the directive following a field study, recommending the PPP model to make Udayapur Cement Industry more competitive.
The parliamentary committee stated that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies should formulate and implement a strategic plan to resolve the long-standing issues of the industry and restart operations under a competitive PPP model.

The committee has also instructed the Ministry of Finance to immediately release the deducted Provident Fund contributions of workers and employees at the Udayapur Cement Industry, if requested.
Additionally, the committee has urged the government to make necessary arrangements to expand the international market for areca nut, tea, ginger, and herbs.
It has also directed the government to facilitate branding and resolve production and distribution issues of traditionally produced local alcohol through legal provisions.
