KATHMANDU, July 23: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu on Tuesday organized a literary event — a poetry symposium titled “Aalmi Mushaira: Urdu, Shaairi Ki Zubaan” (عالمی مشاعرہ، اردو، شاعری کی زبان) — in collaboration with the Sahitya Academy, Nepal.
Special guests included CPN-UML lawmaker Siraj Ahmed Farooqi and Maoist Center lawmaker Kalpana Miya. The event was attended by Urdu enthusiasts, including politicians, intellectuals, social activists, and officials from the Pakistan Embassy. The aim of the event was to highlight the literary linkages between Pakistan and Nepal and to strengthen friendly relations, particularly in the cultural domain.
Teaching through poetry

Renowned Urdu poets, including Dr. Zafar Eleeg, Dr. Saqib Harooni (President of Sahitya Academy, Nepal), Dr. Afzal Manglori, Furqan Faizi, Musharaf Ali Khan, Zahid Azad JhandaNagri, Ghalib Dareeb, Altaf Farifta, and Sapna Ahsaas, presented their poetic works and received wide appreciation.
The guests commended the efforts of the Government of Pakistan in promoting culture and the arts, and its showcasing in Nepal. They lauded the Embassy of Pakistan for bringing together Urdu poets and promoting the Urdu language.
Prakash Sayami, an acclaimed Nepali film director and writer, in his remarks, highlighted the universality and versatility of the Urdu language, particularly the depth of Urdu poetry.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, thanked the Sahitya Academy, Nepal, as well as individual poets for their contributions to the Urdu language. He also emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between the literary institutions of Nepal and Pakistan, particularly through the exchange of literature and promotion of languages such as Urdu and Nepali.
