BIRATNAGAR, May 10: A pickup truck accident in Duhabi, Sunsari, killed one person and injured two others. According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, the accident occurred as the truck loaded with firewood lost control and crashed at Phutani Chowk in Duhabi Municipality-3.
Inspector Sagar Timilsina from the Area Police Office, Duhabi, said the vehicle with registration number Pra 2-01-001 Cha 0251 was traveling south from Itahari to Biratnagar when it veered off the road and slammed into an iron railing on the left side of the road.
Pickup set on fire by unidentified group

Inspector Timilsina confirmed that the crash killed 30-year-old Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police Birodh Khatiwada of Rajabas, Triyuga Municipality-8, Udayapur. Khatiwada was deployed at the District Police Office, Udayapur, under the Narayanhiti Security Guard Unit in Kathmandu.
The crash left Khatiwada with critical injuries to his head, chest, and other parts of his body. He died while receiving treatment at Birat Teaching Hospital in Budhiganga, police said.
The pickup driver, 38-year-old Suresh Karki of Chaudandigadhi Municipality-6, Udayapur, also sustained injuries to his head and chest, according to the police.
Police said the driver's 14-year-old daughter, Rojina Karki, sustained injury to her chin. Doctors are treating her and her father at Birat Teaching Hospital in Budhiganga.
