KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The incoming government will operate from within the Singha Durbar complex, with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers set to relocate to a newly constructed building inside the former Home Ministry compound. Preparations, including furnishing and interior arrangements, are currently underway.
Home Ministry staff have been mobilized throughout the day to manage the setup of the new Prime Minister’s office. On Friday morning, Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal, along with secretaries and senior officials, inspected possible office spaces and found the newly built Home Ministry building suitable. Following the decision, cleaning and logistical arrangements were immediately initiated.

According to officials, the Home Ministry will be temporarily shifted to the Ministry of Education and Culture, since its main office was completely destroyed during Tuesday’s Gen Z protests. In turn, the Education Ministry will move to the Keshar Mahal complex.
The Department of Urban Development and Building Construction reported that there are around 30 large and small buildings within Singha Durbar, many of which are Rana-era structures, with some newly built. Most were damaged during Tuesday’s protests, though a few remain intact.
While the Ministries of Urban Development and Federal Affairs sustained minor damage, the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Senior Citizens remained largely unaffected.
A Home Ministry employee said staff began cleaning and compiling inventories of destroyed or damaged assets on Friday. This followed a meeting led by Chief Secretary Aryal on Thursday evening, where secretaries decided to begin assessing government vehicles, buildings, and property gutted or damaged in the unrest. Most employees returned to their offices by Friday.
