NEW YORK, June 6: Dinesh Sunar, a renowned parkour athlete and 20-time Guinness World Record holder from Nepal, was honored by US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer during the NYC Nepal Day Parade 2025 in Manhattan.
Senator Schumer congratulated Sunar for his accomplishments in parkour and gymnastics, calling his records “extraordinary” and praising his global representation of Nepal. Thousands of spectators witnessed the moment as Sunar, dressed in traditional Nepali attire, received the recognition along Madison Avenue.
Originally from the remote district of Khotang, Sunar rose to international fame despite limited resources and training facilities in his childhood. He is also a former member of Nepal’s Armed Police Force and has performed stunts in over 50 Nepali and Indian films.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Sunar was awarded at the 8848 Himalayan Music & Film Award USA 2025 by Nepali film icon Rajesh Hamal. The award ceremony, held on May 4—Sunar’s birthday—at Melrose Ballroom in New York, celebrated his contributions to Nepali excellence and youth empowerment.
Sunar, who currently serves as Parkour Ambassador for the American Parkour Academy, has used his platform for cultural diplomacy and youth outreach across the US, performing in cities like Washington DC, and New York.
Recognized by multiple US officials—including mayors and state representatives—and by Nepal’s Olympic Committee and Sports Council, Sunar is also the recipient of India’s Mother Teresa International Award.
He is currently working on a documentary about his life and aims to open parkour academies in Nepal and the US while continuing his education and outreach initiatives in rural Nepal.
