KATHMANDU, Aug 7 : Nepal’s women’s national football team has made a significant leap in the latest FIFA world rankings, climbing 13 positions to reach the 87th spot.
According to the rankings published by the global football governing body on Thursday, Nepal moved up from the previous 100th position after an impressive performance in the AFC qualifiers. The team earned a total of 1248.89 points.
Nepal slides three spots in FIFA rankings

Nepal defeated Laos 9-0 and Sri Lanka 8-0 in the AFC qualifiers, and played a 3-3 draw against Uzbekistan in the final group match before losing 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Among South Asian countries, India also improved by seven spots to rank 63rd, while Bangladesh made a remarkable jump of 24 places to 104th. Pakistan climbed three spots to 154th, and Bhutan advanced eight positions to 163rd. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka dropped two spots to 161st.
Globally, Spain remains at the top of the FIFA women’s rankings, while the United States fell to second. Sweden climbed three places to third, England rose to fourth, and Germany dropped two spots to fifth. France moved up to sixth, and Brazil fell three positions to seventh.
