KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Nepal suffered a heavy defeat in its opening match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, losing 4–0 to Tajikistan.
The Group‘K’ opener was played at the Pamir Stadium in Dushanbe on Wednesday night, where Azizboev Muhammadali netted twice for the hosts, while Rahmatsoh Ramatzoda and Delor Saripov added a goal each.

Earlier the same day, Syria edged past the Philippines 2–1.
Nepal will face Syria on September 6 and the Philippines on September 9, with both matches scheduled for 5:15 p.m. NST.
