KATHMANDU, July 29: Nepal and India have agreed to adopt updated modalities for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of boundary pillars along their shared border.
This agreement was reached during the 7th meeting of the Nepal-India Boundary Working Group (BWG), held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting also underscored the importance of adopting new technologies in surveying and mapping to enhance the efficiency of the BWG and its associated mechanisms.

The Nepali delegation was led by Prakash Joshi, Director General of the Department of Survey, while the Indian delegation was headed by Shri Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the decisions made during the 6th BWG Meeting held in August 2019 in Dehradun, as well as the progress of the 11th Survey Officials’ Committee (SOC) Meeting convened in September 2019, also in Dehradun.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides agreed to hold the next SOC meeting in Nepal in August 2025, and to schedule the next BWG meeting in Nepal at a mutually convenient date.
The BWG was established in 2014 as a joint mechanism between Nepal and India to oversee the construction, restoration, and maintenance of boundary pillars, along with other technical tasks related to the border.
