LALITPUR, Aug 2: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said Nepal is enjoying ethnic harmony, reflecting an inclusive democracy.
Delivering his remarks at a program on 'Social, Economic and Political Status of the Tharu Community at Present Time: Opportunities and Challenges' organized by the NC Tharu Department at the party's central office, Sanepa, on Friday, the President said NC is always making honest efforts for the development of the indigenous community.

The Tharu community is always honest to the cause of the nation, no matter the level of odds they face, according to the leader, who argues that the characteristics of Tharu and their social structures and traditions are democratic and special.
The practice of collective decisions in the Tharu community is an example of the system based on transparency, accountability and participation, he said, adding that NC always pays high respect to the Tharu community.
According to NC lawmaker Namita Chaudhary, the NC has 5,500 active members from the Tharu community from across the country. She called for establishing the Tharu in the state's leadership.
