KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the umbrella body of legal professionals, has condemned the dissolution of the House of Representatives, calling it unconstitutional and arbitrary.

Issuing a statement shortly after the decision was announced on Friday night, the NBA said the move undermines constitutional supremacy and strikes at the core of constitutionalism. It warned that the dissolution weakens Nepal’s hard-won democracy and dilutes the achievements of federalism.

“The President’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives also contradicts the Supreme Court’s earlier ruling on the reinstatement of Parliament,” the statement read.

The association further cautioned that dissolving the House before the end of its term erodes public trust in democratic institutions and threatens the very foundations of Nepal’s constitutional order. Rejecting any regressive steps, the NBA urged all sectors to support its protest and actions against the dissolution.

NBA President Dr. Vijay Prasad Mishra and General Secretary Kedar Prasad Koirala jointly signed the statement.
