KATHMANDU, Aug 17: A total of 2,853 disaster incidents have occurred across the country from mid-April until mid-August, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRRMA). These incidents claimed 126 lives and left 585 people injured.
The NDRRM reported that 23 people went missing and 5,041 families were affected. Across the country, there were 216 flood incidents, 317 landslides, 221 cases of heavy rainfall, 245 lightning strikes and 77 snakebite incidents.
No significant rise in criminal incidents during Tihar

Similarly, there were 1,114 cases of fire, 158 forest fires, 277 windstorms, 172 animal attacks, 46 cases of altitude sickness, five earthquakes, two boat capsizes and one each of hailstorm and other disasters.
On August 15 alone, seven fire incidents, one flood, eight landslides, four due to continuous rainfall and three animal attacks were reported. One person lost their life that day, with the estimated damage amounting to Rs 3.84 million. A total of 140 police personnel were deployed for search, rescue and relief operations.
