KATHMANDU, April 12: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started preparations to recover additional dues related to dedicated and trunk lines. On Friday, NEA Managing Director (MD) Hitendra Dev Shakya invited major industrialists with outstanding payments to the NEA office for discussions.

According to the NEA, industrialists responded positively after the NEA's Board reduced the review fee to five percent. During the meeting, Shakya explained that the NEA is working to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply by developing a system that allows for alternative supply routes during disruptions.

However, he noted that implementing such a system requires both time and financial resources. Industrialist Pashupati Murarka, a former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), asserted that industrialists had not acted wrongly in the past and would not do so in the future. He expressed readiness to support the NEA in resolving the dispute through the agreed review process.

Cement industry representative Dhruva Thapa said all major bodies including the Council of Ministers, the Public Accounts Committee, the Electricity Regulatory Commission, and the Lal Commission had directed that tariffs be paid based on actual electricity consumption. He assured that industrialists were willing to pay accordingly.

Shakya emphasized the need to move forward with resolving the issue instead of dwelling on the past, saying it would serve the interests of both the NEA and industrial consumers.
