KATHMANDU, July 27: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has denied rumors of a return to load-shedding, calling recent reports of a six-hour power cut misleading.

After a notice about electricity disruption in western Chitwan and Madi sparked public concern, NEA issued a statement on Sunday clarifying that the power outage is due to technical work—not load-shedding.

According to NEA, construction of a new 33 kV transmission line from the Baseni 132 kV substation to the Chanauli substation is in its final stage. Power supply in the area is expected to normalize within the next two to three days.

The authority said the outage schedule was made to manage increased irrigation demand during low rainfall, which put pressure on the system.

NEA emphasized that portraying this as load-shedding is misleading, as power cuts of this kind are short-term and part of system upgrades. It called on the public to share accurate information and reiterated that load-shedding is now a thing of the past in Nepal.
