NC ministers in Bagmati resign to oust their own chief minister

The ministers who resigned are Minister for Culture and Tourism Bimal Thakuri, Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Madukumar Shrestha, and Minister for Youth and Sports Meen Krishna Maharjan.

KATHMANDU, July 25: Three provincial ministers of Bagmati Province, from the Nepali Congress (NC) have submitted their resignations in an apparent move to replace their own party’s Chief Minister, Bahadur Singh Lama.



The ministers who resigned are Minister for Culture and Tourism Bimal Thakuri, Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Madukumar Shrestha, and Minister for Youth and Sports Meen Krishna Maharjan.

According to the Chief Minister's Secretariat, all three ministers sent their resignations via WhatsApp while Chief Minister Lama was still in Kathmandu. The ministers are now attending a NC parliamentary party meeting where efforts are underway to remove Lama as the party’s parliamentary leader, which could lead to his removal as Chief Minister.


Chhatra Lama, personal secretary to Chief Minister Lama, confirmed the receipt of the resignations and accused party members of initiating a campaign to unseat Lama as both parliamentary leader and Chief Minister, stating that they are prepared to confront the situation.
