KATHMANDU, Sep 13: The Nepali Congress, the largest political party of the country of the dissolved parliament, has decided to stand against the recent dissolution of the House of Representatives.
The newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki, had dissolved the parliament as per the mandate of the ‘Gen Z protest which was eventually approved by the President Ramchandra Paudel on Friday.
The Central Executive Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress held on Saturday concluded that the dissolution of the parliament has endangered the democratic achievements of the country.
Party has no differences regarding its stand against parliament...

"This move to dissolve parliament is against the spirit of our Constitution and the interpretation of the Supreme Court. It is absolutely unconstitutional,” read statement issued by the NC. It argues that the dissolution on the one hand jeopardized democratic achievements, and on the other, it has raised concerns that it may lead to the demise of the sentiments and core values of the Gen Z movement.
The meeting was chaired by Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, as Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is undergoing treatment after being injured in an attack by protesters.
The meeting was attended by presidents of all 7 provinces, provincial chief ministers, and leaders of the provincial parliamentary parties as invited members.
Earlier, on September 10, the Congress had already expressed its stance that the President should take initiatives to resolve the situation as per the constitution and through dialogue with all stakeholders.
The Congress proposed that the Parliament should amend the Constitution to legitimize the formation of an interim government under the leadership of the individual proposed by the GenZ movement. The new government would then announce fresh elections. The Congress claimed that this proposal would offer a responsible political exit.
"This proposal would have ensured victory and ownership for all, met the demands of the protestors by appointing the proposed Prime Minister, and most importantly, a solution could have been found by adhering to the Constitution,” NC said.
