National Assembly approves proposal seeking consideration on Citizenship Bill

KATHMANDU, July 11: The proposal seeking consideration of the Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill, 2081 BS, received with a message from the House of Representatives, has been unanimously approved by the National Assembly (NA).



Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak had presented the proposal in today's meeting of the upper house.


During the discussions on the proposal in the meeting, the lawmakers expressed their opinions on the theoretical aspects of the bill.

In response to the issues raised by the parliamentarians, Home Minister Lekhak informed that the bill has come with provisions for granting citizenship in the name of the mother.


He said, "The bill has been presented with the provisions to ensure that the process of obtaining citizenship or the process of the state providing the citizenship is simplified and not complex. If there are still some things that need to be added or modified, the government is open to that. This Assembly has the authority to finalize this bill. If it is passed quickly, it will make it easier for many citizens to obtain citizenship."


The next meeting of the National Assembly will be held at 1:15 pm on July 15, Tuesday.
