KATHMANDU, Sept 25 – Authorities have deployed five heavy machines to clear landslide debris from the Narayangadh–Muglin road section at Tuin Khola, which was blocked by a massive landslide on Tuesday evening.
Despite the ongoing cleanup efforts, officials have confirmed that full restoration of vehicular movement is not expected before Friday.

The landslide, which struck during peak travel time ahead of Dashain, Nepal’s biggest festival, completely obstructed the highway. Initial assessments estimate that approximately 16,000 cubic meters of debris fell onto the road from the weakened hillside above.
The area is known for frequent landslides due to unstable geology—fractured rock and fragile hill structures. In just the past week, the Tuin Khola area alone has experienced 14 separate landslides, underscoring the ongoing risk.
The blockage has triggered severe traffic congestion along the Prithvi Highway, with long queues of public vehicles and trucks transporting goods for the Dashain festival stretching for kilometers.
In addition to Tuin Khola, landslides are also reported in two other locations, including Jwang Khola in the Muglin–Nawabis section. Authorities report that those areas have now been cleared.
