Municipal police officer removed from duty for mistreating scrap collector

KATHMANDU, April 16: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Police Force has taken action against a municipal police officer for misconduct toward an individual in the Baluwatar area.



Chief of Metropolitan Police Rajunath Pandey said the force removed the officer from duty and summoned him to the office for disciplinary action under the Metropolitan Police Act, 2080 BS, following the incident that took place around 8 am on Wednesday.

A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, showing municipal police seizing a scrap collector’s bicycle and acting inappropriately.


Rajunath Pandey admitted that the officers behaved unprofessionally and inappropriately and confirmed that the authorities would take necessary action against the guilty officer.


Amid widespread criticism on social media, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City promptly issued a press release and launched disciplinary proceedings.
