Bipin had traveled to Israel under the 'earn and learn' program, but was reportedly taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Though he was seen in a video being transferred by Hamas fighters a few days after his abduction, there has been no information on his whereabouts since. Despite efforts and diplomatic pressure from the Government of Nepal and various international organizations, his release has not yet been secured. The Israeli government’s decision to bring his family there is aimed at intensifying the international campaign for his freedom.
