Monty Desai’s coaching journey with Nepal

“Namaste Nepal. Nepal has always held a special place in my heart. It was an honor to work with the national team, and now a new chapter begins with Kathmandu Gorkhas for NPL Season 2,” Desai said in a video message released by the team. He concluded the video by saying in Nepali, “I’m very excited to see you all at the TU Cricket Ground.”
Desai previously served as the head coach of the Nepal national cricket team. Under his leadership, Nepal secured a top-four finish in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 last season, qualifying for the ODI World Cup qualifiers. He also led Nepal to qualify for the T20 World Cup for the first time in 10 years.
In the first edition of the NPL, Kathmandu finished in fifth place with Basanta Shahi as the head coach. Ahead of the second season, the team has also rebranded itself—changing its name from ‘Kathmandu Gurkhas’ to ‘Kathmandu Gorkhas’.
