KATHMANDU, April 17: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has recommended the promotion of six Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Nepal Police to the position of Additional Inspector General (AIG).
The recommended DIGs for promotion, in the order of ranking, are Chandra Kuber Khapung, Lalmani Acharya, Krishna Hari Sharma Pokhrel, Dan Bahadur Karki, Rajan Adhikari, and Dr Manoj Kumar KC.

Khapung is currently serving at the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Acharya leads the Madhesh Province Police Office (PPO) in Janakpur, and Pokhrel heads the Bagmati PPO. They are batchmates of the current Inspector General of Police Dipak Thapa.
Karki, who is fourth on the promotion list, is serving as the chief of the Lumbini PPO in Dang, while Adhikari leads the Koshi PPO, and KC is at the National Police Training Academy.
Due to the 30 years limit in police service, six AIG positions became vacant on March 17, when the then IGP Basanta Kunwar and his batchmates retired. However, due to political infighting, promotions were delayed for a month.
As a result, six important departments within the police were left vacant due to the lack of AIG promotions.
