The subcommittee was initially formed under the leadership of CPN-UML lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai to investigate irregularities, errors, and corruption during the airport's construction. However, RSP’s Jha had questioned a possible conflict of interest due to Bhattarai’s past role as a minister. In response, Bhattarai stepped down from the coordinator role.
Earlier, PAC Chair Rishikesh Pokharel had proposed UML lawmaker Achyut Prasad Mainali as the new coordinator, but consensus could not be reached. The subcommittee has now officially appointed Manju Khand to lead the investigation.
