After the murder, he reportedly buried her body in a pit in the worship room and then fled with their 10-month-old daughter. Yadav managed to escape, but he was eventually arrested today at the Khajuri railway station in Dhanusha.

According to Dhanusha's Police Superintendent, Narhari Regmi, Hari Ram had killed his wife and locked the house from the outside before fleeing with their daughter. The locals had informed the police after noticing that no one was home for three or four days and that the house was being locked from outside.

Upon investigation, the police noticed a freshly applied plaster in the worship room of the house. When they dug there, they discovered Anjali's body, buried two feet under the ground. Despite Hariram's arrest, the 10-month-old daughter he had taken along with him has not yet been found. The police are still searching for the child.

Anjali's father, Shivadhari Yadav, has filed a formal complaint, accusing his son-in-law, Hari Ram, of murdering his daughter.
