TANAHUN, June 28: Kanyadevi Secondary School, located in Hilikharka of Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality–6, Tanahun, had a zero success rate in last year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE). Nineteen students appeared for the SEE last year, and all of them failed. However, four students later passed through grade improvement.

This year, however, the school has shown improvement in its SEE results. According to the school’s principal, Suryaman Singh Gurung, 73.33 percent of students passed the SEE this year. Out of the 15 students who appeared for the exam, 11 passed.

Principal Gurung credited the improved results to the investment made by the rural municipality. Taking into account the needs of the SEE candidates, the local government had arranged hostel facilities. The municipality covered all expenses for food and accommodation.

Subject teachers also stayed at the hostel to teach the students. Additional study sessions were arranged from 5:00 to 8:00 in the morning and from 5:00 to 8:00 in the evening. "From the beginning, the rural municipality had been investing in improving SEE results. What we are seeing now is the result of that effort," said Principal Gurung.

Chairperson of the rural municipality, Shukra Chuman, said that they had been committed from the start to improving the academic performance of schools within the municipality. "Last year’s results had disappointed us. To improve the outcome, we had conducted residential classes at the schools this time," he said.

Chuman also mentioned that data collection on results from all schools within the wards is still underway but noted that improvements have been observed across the board.
