KATHMANDU, July 21: Former Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Kulman Ghising, has said that the current load shedding problem in the country is not caused by a power shortage, rather due to a failure in leadership.

Speaking during an interview with Republica, Ghising said, "This isn’t about lacking power, it’s a failure of leadership. Leadership must oversee the management. They must ask: where is the system failing, what is happening, and is management doing its job or not?"

He emphasized that Nepal is currently exporting electricity, yet people are facing power cuts lasting three to five hours daily. Calling this unfortunate, he added, "There is no power shortage, we have surplus energy and are exporting it. But at home, there are cuts for hours. This situation demands a serious review by management."

Ghising, who was dismissed by the government on March 24, was replaced by Hitendra Dev Shakya as the new head of the authority. However, the problem of frequent power cuts has continued. When asked about this, Ghising pointed directly to leadership failure.
